Your task will be to take an interdisciplinary perspective to Watchmen and create a portfolio representing that pursuit.  The portfolio consists of the following pieces:

Your portfolio must:
Have a cover page with your name, the course and section number, and the topic of fascination.
Be typed in size 12 Times New Roman font and single spaced.
Have a table of contents.
Have page numbers.
Include each piece in the correct order (Comparative Analysis, Lesson Summary, Project Description, and the Project, if possible).
Be stapled.

Comparative Analysis:
Write an essay identifying one difference between Watchmen the graphic novel and Watchmen the film.  From there, explain why it is important to note this difference.  I know this may sound narrow but just remember all the in class work we have done with the tiny cogs of Watchmen.

How to Cite:
When citing from the graphic novel, quote the text and then put the chapter and page number in parentheses.  See the below example for reference.

Dr. Manhattan explains to Laurie, “But the rules are different for me.  Please try to understand.  An hour into my future, we’re on Mars, we’re talking” (VIII.23).

There’s no need to cite the panel number or worry about a Works Cited List.  If you are quoting the movie you need only put the word “film” in parentheses as shown here:

Dr. Manhattan answers, “Without condoning, or condemning, I understand” (film).

No works cited list is required for this essay; do not use outside research.

Suggested Format
Introductory Paragraph:  Begin with a general description of the difference you have identified.  You do not need to explain the significance of said difference yet; that’s for the rest of the paper.  The last sentence of this introduction should be your thesis; a one sentence explanation of what your paper argues.
Body Paragraphs:  The next handful of paragraphs will illustrate the multiple reasons (one per paragraph) why it is significant to note this difference.  Think about how the story changes, how the characters change, how the audience’s feelings change, and how one, many, or all themes change.  Be sure reference specific moments in the novel and movie.
Concluding Paragraph: Summarize how the proof of your thesis was accomplished and speak about why it is important for readers to note this difference between the novel and film.

Context:
The majority of the work in this portfolio is a combination of three pieces: the Lesson Summary, Project, and the Project Description.  Combined, they represent a full treatment of some aspect of Watchmen from a position of consilience.  Your job is to take a lesson you learned in another class and apply it to Watchmen, offering a deeper understanding of the text.



Lesson Summary:
Write an essay identifying and describing a lesson/information you learned in another class you have either completed or are currently taking at QCC.  Be sure to include which class.

Format Guidelines:
This should be 1-2 pages in length and follow the portfolio guidelines for all other concerns.



Project Description:
Here you will give a half page description of what your project represents and how.  This is to make sure that I don’t misinterpret your project as well as demonstrate your ability to articulate your efforts.



Project:
Detail how the knowledge you have identified in the essay explains an element of Watchmen more thoroughly.
